Pearl Birchard
Pearl Muriel Bird Greenwood Birchard, 89, of Binghamton, met face to face with her Lord and Savior, on December 17, 2009.
She was born to William and Lola Grace Bird on October 29, 1920 in Williamsport, Pa. Pearl moved from Williamsport to Montrose in 1952 where she was employed by the Christian radio station WPEL as The Story Lady and a secretary. While working at WPEL she met Clifton Birchard and they were married in August of 1954. Eventually they moved their family from Birchardville, Pa to Binghamton, NY.
Pearl was predeceased by her first husband, Casper D. Greenwood, as well as her brothers, William Bird, Jr. and Oscar Bird. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Clifton H. Birchard, Sr., her three children: Robert C. Greenwood and his wife, Judy of Woodinville, WA; Clifton H. Birchard Jr. and his wife Marsha of Birchardville, PA; and Betsey Birchard Hay and her husband Randy, of Chenango Forks, NY. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Bethany Birchard Skoczylas, and her husband, Matthew; granddaughter, Alissa Birchard; a great-granddaughter, Della Skoczylas; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was an active member of Central Baptist Church where she enjoyed many years of serving the Lord as a women's Bible teacher, Sunday School teacher and working in youth ministries. She also served with the international organization, Christian Women's Clubs. She was the president of the Binghamton Chapter and held Bible studies/coffee time in her home. She enjoyed reading, crafts, knitting, and cross-stitching. She loved spending time with family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Central Baptist Church, 1606 State Route 12 Binghamton, on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., with Pastors Bob Mattox and Bill Miller officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until time of service at the church. Burial will be at the Birchardville Cemetery immediately following the service.
