Elmer "Tom" Roberts

Elmer "Tom" Roberts, 91, of Montrose, PA passed away, Monday, January 25, 2010. Born April 20, 1918 in Factoryville, PA, he was the son of the late Walter E. and Estella E. [Clark] Roberts. His wife Ruth [Hallstead] Roberts predeceased him in 2004. Tom started a garage in Factoryville. After 2 years, he was drafted into the Army. Tom was an instructor and mechanic with the 16th Armored Division of the U.S. Army. He served from May of 1941 to 1946, serving 3 years in Ft. Knox, Kentucky. He was an instructor prior to being sent to the European Theatre with General Patton's Army serving in France, Czechoslovakia & Germany being discharged on March 1, 1946. After coming home from the Army, he worked for C&F Motors in Montrose for 14 years and started a body shop for them. After that, he owned and operated his own garage and body shop at Tiffany Corners for 23 years. He was a member, past elder & past trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Montrose where he was instrumental with other members of the church in digging, by hand, the basement of the church in 1960. Tom was a 50 year member & past Master (1953) of Warren Lodge #240 F & AM and of the Warren Chapter 180 & Commandry. His other memberships included the Montrose Club, Ayres Stone VFW Post #5642 & the Irem Temple. He also became a member of the Montrose Rotary Club in 1964 where he was President in 1973 and was made Paul Harris Fellow in 1987. Survivors include daughters & sons-in-law, Nancy & Robert Wiker of Lititz, PA, Sue & Paul Kipar of Meshoppen, PA, grandchildren & spouse, Ross, Justin & Dana Wiker, Ryan (Megan), & Alex Kipar, sister, Alice Smith of Great Bend, PA, special friend, Marion Smith of Montrose, PA, nieces & nephews Besides his parents & wife he was predeceased by several of his siblings. Visitation: 6-8 PM on Wednesday at the Bartron-Myer Funeral Home & 1 hour prior to services at the church on Thursday . Masonic Service: Wednesday, 5:45PM at the funeral home.
